Looking for Showcase inspiration?

The deadline for our Apps for Good Showcase 2024 is fast approaching on Friday 26th April. We've been receiving some fantastic entries from schools across the country, but there's still time to submit your ideas to this year's Showcase!

While we wait patiently for shortlisting to commence with our Industry Volunteers and some former Showcase winners, we thought we'd take a look back at some entries from 2023. We always love to see the huge range of ideas, tackling real life problems and coming up with some brilliantly innovative solutions!

Helping young women overcome period poverty

Rokhaya, Haajar, and Seher, all aged 13 from Shireland Collegiate Academy won the 2023 People's Choice Award for their app, Sanitary, aimed at women and girls in the UK who don't have access to sanitary products.

"Our app is designed for females who do not have the opportunity or have barriers to access essential products. Our app helps women to get these necessary sanitary products for free in an emergency or in a demanding situation."

Encouraging confidence in reading for young people with Dyslexia

Daisy, Jennifer and Chloe, aged 12-13 from St Paul's RC Academy had the idea to create an app for school pupils in the UK who struggle to read and need to boost their reading confidence.

"It is designed for any device, it uses the microphone to record the user reading and gives them feedback about how to improve. Users earn points as they progress and get better and they can turn these points into money that they can spend online on educational things"

A digital friend for carers of people living with Dementia

Students aged 13-15 from West Bromwich Collegiate Academy won Judge's Favourite in our Inclusive Creators category for their app idea, Never Forget, which was designed for patients and carers of people with Dementia and mental health conditions.

"Having something like Never Forget, where the advice from the whole internet is found and amalgamated quickly using AI would benefit people like my mum to be supported as a carer. On the other side of things, my Gran was also a person needing support."

Reducing the impact of Co2 from pets

Noah (13), David (12), and Liam (12) from Dunoon Grammar School won Judge's Favourite in our Sustainable Innovators category for their app, Paw Print, which aimed to educate pet owners and change bad habits.

"We generated a wide range of ideas and since two of our team have pets - we were really interested and alarmed at how pet owners are damaging the environment, often because they don't know any better. Paw Print will help education and change behaviours (in fun ways) - resulting in better pets and a better planet!"
