We’re focused on benefiting even more students across the UK with Innovate for Climate Change and App for Social Action

Our impact journey continues to evolve each year. As a charity we're passionate about ensuring young people have the tech innovation skills to thrive in a changing world, and our focus is firmly fixed on collaborating with schools to reach our next generation of innovators!

  1. This year we’ve seen our Innovate for Climate Change course reach five times as many schools as the previous year and we’re working hard to introduce many more to our climate-action-focused computing course again this year. With a new content framework, industry engagement opportunities and Showcase firmly embedded in the 7-session Apps for Good experience, what’s not to love?

  2. Our new course, App for Social Action, launched in September 2023 so we’re keen to see that many of our schools delivering legacy courses migrate over to this brilliant new course, which supports students to independently create a social action app. As with all of our courses, it includes entry to Showcase and industry engagement opportunities. It's also free of charge and comes with teacher support tools to ensure it’s easy to pick up and deliver by non-specialist teachers, and is a brilliant introduction to computing at Key Stage 3/S1-3.

  3. Something very exciting is on the horizon - a brand new course is scheduled for release in September 2024! AI for Good will enable students to explore new ways to use AI to improve the quality of people’s lives and solve problems that communities face. AI and Machine Learning has already generated new job opportunities as well as creating a skills gap in the workforce, so learning how to create AI responsibly is essential for young people. This course is a great update to our legacy course, Machine Learning, which will be phased out at the end of 2024.

With three core courses in 2024, it’s more important than ever that we measure our impact on students and teachers. We will continue to build a community of teachers to help guide our course content and help us collect data to understand more about what works and what needs to evolve further. We look forward to working with new and existing partners to continue providing inspirational role models through our Industry Volunteers and of course, the funding which enables Apps for Good to remain free of charge for schools. As we expand our reach to more schools, with the support of the Hg Foundation, we will begin to build plans to understand the long-term impact of Apps for Good.
