Donna Hay Award for Impact
Each year we celebrate the life of our Senior Learning Manager, Donna Hay. This award recognises educators and Industry Volunteers who go above and beyond to support Apps for Good students with their learning journey.
The 2024 Donna Hay Award for Impact, Teacher of the Year goes to Fraser Christie from St Paul's RC Academy, and School of the Year goes to St Marylebone CE School.
Fraser said, "The Apps for Good courses are a great way to refresh an area of your curriculum that might be tired or unpopular with something new exciting, professional, engaging and relevant."
Sathish Sivasubramanian from St Marylebone CE School said, "I would highly recommend Apps for Good to other schools looking for innovative ways to teach computing. The program provides a practical, engaging approach to learning that goes beyond traditional classroom methods. It empowers students with essential digital skills, fosters creativity, and promotes problem-solving and teamwork."
The award also celebrates the role of our amazing Industry Volunteers in making a positive impact on our students. The 2024 Donna Hay Award for Impact, Volunteer of the Year goes to Fabiana Guglielmi from Novakid Inc. Fabiana is a remarkable volunteer and role model for all students, with a particular passion for inspiring girls to pursue a career in technology. Showcase is integral to the Apps for Good approach. Our aim is to celebrate student creativity and tech innovation, inspiring and encouraging them to pursue careers in tech, taking action on the things they care about most and developing awesome life-skills along the way. This year, an amazing 193 student teams entered Showcase and we hope to reach more young people in the next academic year with our courses.
