Introducing our Showcase 2023 Categories and Sponsors!
The Apps for Good Showcase is back for 2023. In this exciting annual event we celebrate the incredible tech innovation skills of young people across the UK. Each year we see entries from hundreds of students who have taken part in our computing courses, pitch their ground-breaking product ideas to a diverse range of industry experts.
This year we have seen many climate and sustainability app ideas submitted, fuelled by the uptake of our new Innovate for Climate Change course. We also continue to see broader social action focused apps from those engaging with our App Development and Machine Learning courses.
We are proud to be backed by such fantastic businesses whose financial support and commitment to employee volunteering make Showcase possible! We asked them to reveal their category and why they want to be involved:
A few words from our category sponsor TPX Impact:
"We believe that everyone should have equal opportunities to participate in making the world a better place through technology and social impact. The tech sector is growing at an exciting pace and opportunities such as the Apps for Good Showcase are amazing because they are reaching the next generations of diverse talent that is going to set the tone for what's right and important in the years to come."
A few words from our category sponsor Kingston Technology:
"This is the third year running that Kingston Technology is supporting the Apps for Good Showcase. We recognise the importance of STEM education and as part of our social impact work specifically, look to address Sustainable Development Goal 4 - Quality Education. Apps for Good has a well-rounded approach to STEM education with cutting-edge tech courses that give both students and teachers space to learn and grow. The Showcase is a meaningful opportunity for young people to participate as they are given the chance to build their skills, their confidence, and get a glimpse of the business world. Students are given the chance to engage with Kingston volunteers who can offer valuable feedback, and real-life insights into their work. The ideas and solutions created by the students are fantastic, and it is inspiring to see how they bring these to life. We are proud to be supporting Apps for Good and the Community Champion category again this year."
A few words from our category sponsor Ovo Foundation:
"The Climate Changers category recognises the vital role that technology can play in tackling the climate crisis. We're proud to be partnering with Apps for Good in supporting the next generation to develop the green technology skills they need to help them change the world."
A few words from our category sponsor EPAM:
"At EPAM, we are committed to investing in education and equipping young people with the skills they need to succeed in a digital world. We are proud to support Apps for Good's education technology movement, which provides students with a unique opportunity to develop essential skills in teamwork, creativity, and entrepreneurship. The Apps for Good Showcase is a great way for students to apply their newfound skills to real-world problems and showcase their technology products to the world. We believe that our partnership with Apps for Good will help to inspire the next generation of innovators and make a positive impact on the digital landscape. We look forward to seeing the incredible solutions that students come up with." Shamilka Samarasinha, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility.
A few words from our category sponsor Sage:
"Sage is supporting the Showcase as supporting young people to identify STEM careers is part of Sage Foundations commitment to knock down barriers so that everyone can thrive. We recognise that not everyone has the opportunity to develop these skills so partnering with Apps for Good gives us the platform to do this to provide extra support to students while raising their confidence in their abilities and inspiring them to develop their ideas, empowering them with the skills and motivation to take action on the things that matter to them the most." Clare Lindsey
A few words from our category sponsor BNY Mellon:
"We are proud to be working with Apps for Good on the ‘Innovate for Climate Change’ course. By raising awareness about the intersection between technology and climate change, we are inspiring the next generation of leaders and empowering them to make a difference." Charlotte Mukungu, Head of Philanthropy for EMEA, APAC and LATAM at BNY Mellon
This year our partners are going one step further and offering Showcase Accelerator sessions for students to attend prior to their submission. Providing the opportunity to pitch their app idea and receive valuable feedback and make any tweaks needed before their final entry.
The deadline for students to submit their Showcase entries is Friday 21st April. Our expert volunteers are ready to go with shortlisting entries and will ensure every student receives personal feedback on their app ideas, even if they don’t progress to the finals.
A very big thank you to all of our partners who make Showcase possible and Good Luck to all students entering this year!
Keep an eye out on our website and social media channels to see the teams being showcased and for upcoming details on how to vote in the People’s Choice Awards in June!
