Unlock the power of Industry Engagement in your classroom

We’re proud to offer Apps for Good teachers and students the incredible opportunity of Industry Engagement sessions within our courses. These virtual sessions bring Industry Volunteers from some of our partners, such as Google and Spotify, directly into your classroom (via video call) to provide tailored feedback on your students' app ideas. It’s an exciting, real-world learning experience that can transform how your students engage with teamwork, pitching, and communication.

We’ve noticed some teachers hesitate to take advantage of these sessions, often due to misconceptions or worries about logistics. So, we wanted to dispel those concerns and show just how simple, flexible, and rewarding these sessions can be.

It’s natural to worry about classroom behaviour when visitors are present. However, our Industry Volunteers are experienced professionals who understand how to connect with young people and adapt to different group dynamics.

Many teachers are pleasantly surprised by how students step up for these sessions. The presence of an external guest often motivates students to stay focused, and you remain in control as the session host. Whilst we dedicate a one hour session for Industry Engagement in the course materials, these sessions are flexible and could last as little as 20 minutes if that meets your needs. We’re also here to support you with tips for preparing students beforehand, ensuring a smooth and productive experience, just reach out to us via education@appsforgood.org.

Absolutely not! We’ve made the booking process as straightforward as possible:

• Simply log into your Apps for Good account and submit a request using the easy to follow form.
• Our Industry Volunteers will be able to see your request and are able to accept the session.
• Once matched, you’ll receive a confirmation email so you can liaise directly with the volunteer to confirm specific details about the call — there’s no unnecessary admin or complex paperwork to complete.

In just a few clicks, your session is set up, leaving you free to focus on your students.

Good news - all you need is access to a simple video call platform like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or Google Meet. You can use a camera if you’d like, but it’s not mandatory. We’ll guide you through the setup if you’re new to video calls and recommend a quick tech check beforehand to ensure everything runs smoothly.

You’re in control of the session, and can work with the volunteer to make it as straightforward or advanced as you’d like.

Flexibility is key! Industry Engagement Sessions can be tailored to fit your timetable:

• Sessions don’t have to last a full hour
• You choose the time and date that work best for your class
• Each course has a dedicated session for Industry Engagement
• You can also request additional career’s sessions at any point if you wish
• You can request a career’s talk at any point!

These sessions are designed to complement your course, offering a meaningful learning experience without disrupting your routine.

Don’t worry! We recommend making use of the Industry Volunteer’s expertise at the ideation stage before everything is polished as this is the best time for students to receive feedback ahead of developing their app prototype.
